Considering whitening your teeth?

November 2, 2009

Have you noticed friends or co-workers with bright smiles and thought, “They sure are lucky to have such beautiful teeth”? Actually, luck may or may not have played a part. Chances are their dentist played a more important role. Long-term studies of the safety and the effectiveness of teeth whitening are encouraging to dentists who want to provide their patients a simple and economical way to improve their smiles.
Several methods are available to whiten teeth with minimal effort and with usually no discomfort. After a dental check-up, your dentist can advise you on how best to brighten your smile. Methods range from strips applied to the teeth at home over a 2 or 3-week period, to light-activated processes done in the dentist’s chair in about an hour. The active ingredient, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, is safe when used according to instructions and works to lighten the enamel. In most cases, this change in color is dramatic! Volumes have been written about the importance of a smile, and its relationship to one’s psychological outlook. Now it’s easier than ever to improve your smile and change your life!
